Well, here's some good news to share. Lawyers are a conservative bunch, so it's exciting to see that they are looking at new ways to meet, learn and grow professionally. And as with other conferences, the virtual attendees will save thousands of dollars in travel expenses and will enjoy the conference in the comfort of their own home or workspace.
Queen's University's Faculty of Law is holding Canada's first “virtual law conference” Thursday, March 18, 2010. The conference, meant to address the intersection of the law and technology, will include about 20 academics from Canada, the U.S. and other countries as they participate from the comfort of their own homes or workspace. Instead of flying in to Kingston, participants will log on to Second Life, and their avatars will attend the virtual conference, set up on the virtual “Queen's Faculty of Education Island.” Queen's law professor and conference organizer, Art Cockfield, said the participants do not have to be devotees of Second Life's virtual world or even computer expert experts.
