Miami Music Fest 11/12-14/2010 to be streamed into Second Life

"For the first time in it’s history the Miami music Fest 2010 (in conjunction with Urban Network Magazine and web TV content provider the PULSE TV Network) will stream event segments live into the 3D avatar driven social network of Second Life Nov. 12th- 14th. For those unfamiliar with Second Life, it’s a fully immersive online community with about 20 million user accounts all interacting as avatars in 3D environments with a virtual economy of over 500 million dollars a year. Segments of the festival will be covered by the PULSE TV Network (an online content creator and provider based inside Second Life) live and streamed back into Second Life where residents watch the live simulcasts on giant screens in virtual clubs, stadiums, parks etc.

Also in addition to taking the MMF 2010 (Miami Music Fest) into Second Life, Pulse TV is taking Second Life to the MMF by setting interface stations at select festival event sites. These interactive stations will allow festival participants to actually visit the virtual world via an interactive guided tour courtesy of the PULSE TV NETWORK and participating Second Life residents, business owners and the vast entertainment community that is responsible for so many not only joining Second Life but keeping them active users there as well.

Finally four very lucky Second Life artists will be allowed to perform live during the festival (via webcast to festival goers) for music, TV and film executives at the MMF looking for new acts to sign and do business with. Second Life viewer behind-the-firewall - Its time has come!

Over the last few months companies have been popping up who are developing software that enables a Second Life client to be deployed behind a corporate firewall.  Below is a company I ran across in LinkedIn.  This post is not an endorsement for D/MARK, but more to let my readers know what's on the horizon for Second Life.

"D/MARC is our new software product which allows organisations to securely access any remote internet service through a restricted corporate firewall. Access is metered and can be limited to a single service (eg. Second Life, Youtube, social media) or multiple services can be selected. Local points of presence mean that access is always fast and data is transferrred using SSL so its completely secure.

We're now looking for 20 companies/organisations to take part in a closed beta test. There are of course no costs associated with this trial - all we ask is that participants sign an NDA and data transfer will be capped at 1gb. In today’s world, increasingly, people are meeting online.
